How to Play
Scoring
A match is won when a player wins three games i.e. the best of five games.
The choice to serve is made by the electronic scoring system.
One serves from the right with an even score, from the left with an odd score.
A game is won when the server gains a minimum of 15 points, on the condition that the score difference between the server and receiver is at least two points or failing that - the player who first gains 21 points is the winner of the game, regardless of the afore mentioned conditions.
The winner of a game serves first in the next game.
The Ball
For each level of play, from beginner to league player, there are three different coloured balls.
The red ball is for beginners, the purple ball for intermediate players and the grey ball for league players.
Ricochet® Game Rules
1. Good service:
The server must have at least one foot in the service box and serves the ball directly onto the front wall (above the infra-red zone) into the large receiving area. When the ball comes from the front wall, it may either hit the sidewall or not, before the receiver returns the ball.
2. The service is fault:
The server does not have at least one foot in the service box.
The ball does not bounce in the receiving area (unless the receiver volleys the ball).
The ball strikes the infra-red zone.
The ball hits the ceiling.
The ball does not directly hit the front wall.
If the ball strikes the back wall on or above the red line (not shown here).
When a player faults then he/she loses one point and the service goes to the receiver.
3. A good return of service:
The ball must be struck on the volley or before it has touched the floor twice, and must hit the front wall above the infra-red zone.
4. A fault ball during a rally:
The ball strikes the front wall on or below the red line (infra-red zone).
The ball hits the back wall on or below the red line (infra-red zone).
The ball is struck twice by a player(Double Hit)
The ball bounces twice before the opponent is able to strike the ball.
5. Subsequent play:
The ball may strike the front wall directly or non-directly (i.e. struck via the side wall, this also called a reverse ricochet shot) or the ceiling (ceiling drop shot).
A player must give his opponent a fair opportunity to get to and strike at the ball.
The player who has just struck the ball is advised to take his position in the protected zone (circle); one is then within reach of the four corners.
6. Types of shots:
A. Drop shot (bounces near the front wall).
B. Length shot ( deep along the side wall).
C. Cross court (shot from the left side of the court to the right side or vice versa).
D. Side wall Ricochet (side wall(s)-front wall).
E. Ceiling drop (ceiling-front wall: see fig. 5).
F. Ceiling Ricochet (ceiling-front wall).
G. Reverse Ricochet (front wall-ceiling: see fig. 5).
Lets/Points- Situations
7. Interference: Let/Point
The grey player is in close proximity to the red player when the latter player wants to play the ball but stops the rally. If interference has occurred but there was no direct danger that the red player would have hit the grey player, then the rally is played again. This is called a let.
If there was no interference, then the red player loses the point.
8. Interference: Let
The grey player is too close to the red player who wishes to play the ball via the side wall. If now the red player stops play then the rally is played again. This is also a let.
9. Interference: Point
The grey player is too close to the red player who wants to play the ball directly to the front wall. The grey player can either be behind or next to the red player. There exists a danger that the red player strikes the grey player. If the red player stops play then he wins the rally.
10. The ball strikes the other player:
A. If the ball would not have carried to the front wall then the grey player wins the rally.
B. If the red player strikes the grey player with the ball, and it travels towards the front wall then the red player wins the rally, provided the ball would carry to the front wall.
